THANK YOU for joining us for
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I would like to congratulate the community of Saint George on a very successful Greek Festival. The success we have achieved comes from the efforts of all of us. Every year we are faced with a daunting task that starts from February and really is not done until after clean up when everything is cleaned and put back to its original state. Somehow we pull through and are stronger and I believe closer, having shared this experience and the reward of having given something back to Christ. The festival seems to parallel lent in someways. During lent we fast the best we can and at the end we enjoy our reward. St. John Chrysostom’s Paschal Sermon says “If any have labored long in fasting, let him now receive his recompense. If any have wrought from the first hour, let him today receive his just reward...If any have tarried even until the eleventh hour, let him, also, be not alarmed at his tardiness; for the Lord, who is jealous of his honor, will accept the last even as the first; He gives rest unto him who comes at the eleventh hour, even as unto him who has wrought from the first hour.”
Christ gave us the command; “Love one another as I have loved you.” If this is how Christ loves us then we need to love the same way. Therefore let us be mindful not to be upset by what our brothers and sisters have to offer but rather be thankful that they are contributing because every contribution helps us to reach our goal.
With every year that passes the experience of the festival becomes more emotional for me. I watch our youth dance, some of them for the last time as a member of GOYA, all of them have been a Religious Education student of mine. They will soon begin a new chapter of their life. It is abundantly clear to me the importance of what we are striving for as a community and the responsibility we have to preserve our faith, our culture and our traditions. It goes without saying that the festival plays a huge part in that so again, thank you for your contribution and God bless you!
Και του χρόνου!
